The exhibition Painting Fragments was officially launched by the Chinese National Academy of Arts' Institute of Oil Painting at the Yunshang Museum in Beijing on Saturday. The exhibition showcases more than 30 oil paintings and ink works by Ding Tianque, a renowned modern artist.

A special section was also set up to display Ding's biography, as well as lineage of masters and disciples, through books and documents.

Ding belongs to the second generation of 20th-century Chinese oil painting artists. During the development of Chinese art in the 20th century, Ding, with his straightforward and simple personality, consistently practiced the interaction of color and expression in oil painting, exploring more possibilities in modern oil painting in China.

The planning and preparation of this exhibition took more than two years, during which art critic Shi Jianbang was closely involved. According to Shi, Ding made profound achievements in multiple areas and was an artist who learned from both the East and the West. Shi said he hopes that visitors will be able to see the profound knowledge gained by 20th-century artists and the artistic ideals and insights presented by the older generation of artists in their work.
