Chinese drama The Ballad of Yanhe River was staged at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing on the nights of Monday and Tuesday.

Produced by the Xi'an Theater, the play follows the story of young people who headed to Yan'an, the then revolutionary Mecca during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-45). Every character in the play has their own personal growth arc throughout the play.

With vivid character creation, ups and downs in the storytelling and touching scenes during the war, the play paints a magnificent group portrait of the young people who fought for home and country as well as their ideals.

The atmosphere of the audiences reached a climax on Monday with the song, "Yellow River Cantata," which was created by Chinese composer Xian Xinghai in Yan'an in early 1939 and reflects the revolutionary spirit of the times.
