Annual internet gala sees cultural diversity and richness

The 2024 China Online Audiovisual Annual Gala premiered on major Chinese streaming platforms such as Mango TV, Tencent Video, Bilibili, and Kuaishou on Saturday evening.Themed Toward the Future, the gala highlighted stories of people from various walks of life, ethnicities, and professions on the way to chase their dreams.

The gala featured outstanding web audiovisual productions from the past year in various forms, including traditional Chinese performances, musicals, dramas, operas, and a showcase of intangible cultural heritage fashion.

The singing and dancing performance combined multiple traditional Chinese opera styles, including Peking Opera, Qinqiang Opera, Kunqu Opera, Yueju Opera, and Yuju Opera, for the opening show, which was performed by five opera artists and six guests from hit reality shows such as Call Me by Fire and Sisters Who Make Waves.

In the intangible cultural heritage fashion show, the model team from a village in Northwest China's Gansu Province, who previously appeared in the documentary series Amid Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains aired on Mango TV in 2023, showcased ethnic minority heritage costumes.

The gala also emphasized integrating technology into artistic expression. Notably, VR technology was employed in a drama that was adapted from the real-life story of a border hero.

Performances narrating the stories of dreamers in the Belt and Road Initiative participating countries, and creative shows depicting the development and challenges of micro-dramas in the industry were also staged.

In addition, young students from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan island sang popular songs at the gala, such as "Olive Tree" and "Grandmother's Penghuwan." 

Under the guidance of the National Radio and Television Administration, the gala was organized by the China Netcasting Services Association and the China Television Artists Association, and hosted by over 20 platforms.
