Culture Beat: Winter ice and snow carnival launched in Beijing’s Mentougou

The Mentougou district in West Beijing launched a winter ice and snow carnival on Thursday to celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival. The carnival includes six sections covering activities like ice and snow events, temple fairs and tasty delicacies. 

With a focus on new cultural tourism formats and locations such as scenic spots, B&Bs, and hot online check-in spots, the district released four winter ice and snow routes which connect various cultural spots, according to Xia Mingjun, director of the Mentougou District Cultural Tourism Bureau. 

The fifth Ice and Snow Festival will be mainly held in Gushan Village, where tourists can experience family B&Bs, local dishes and local intangible cultural heritage performances. 

Renowned spots like Tanzhe Temple and Baqi Cave have launched lantern and temple fairs as well as dragon dances for tourists.
