The biographical thriller movie Oppenheimer by renowned Hollywood filmmaker Christopher Nolan dominated the 81st Golden Globes, winning five awards, including best drama. Having already earned huge box-office success in the Chinese mainland, the film's domination at the Golden Globes amassed congratulations and applause from Chinese fans and once again ignited discussions on social media.

With eight nominations, Christopher Nolan's blockbuster biopic Oppenheimer won five awards: best drama, best director, best actor for Cillian Murphy, best supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr. and best score for Ludwig Göransson.

Related hashtags on China's Sina Weibo has reached over 74.51 million views by Monday afternoon. On Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, the related topic has accumulated 659,000 views by Monday afternoon. In a video posted by Wanda Pictures on Douyin, a clip of Murphy giving an acceptance speech for best drama actor soon garnered over 13,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

"The film will probably win an Oscar as well. No film released last year could be a match for Oppenheimer. The film is so deep," wrote a top-liked comment below the video with nearly 400 likes. Another comment predicted that Murphy would win an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Many netizens said Oppenheimer was one of the best films they watched in 2023, and it definitely deserved to dominate at the Golden Globes.

Adapted from a Pulitzer Prize-winning book, the film is about the US physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer's pivotal role in the Manhattan Project, which produced the first atomic weapons during World War II.

The film has an 8.8/10 rating on Chinese media review site Douban based on more than 600,000 reviews. According to Maoyan, a Chinese movie ticketing and film data platform, the film earned more than $63.02 million after its release in the Chinese mainland on August 30, 2023.
