The Central Art Museum opened to the public in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang Province, on Monday.

Qi-Hang, the inaugural exhibition running until May 5, 2024, brings together over 100 contemporary art masterpieces with distinctive contemporary features. Through three major sections - Text and Symbols, Individual and Collective, and Possibilities - the exhibition encompasses painting, sculptures, installations, images, and cross-media channels to narrate high-quality Chinese art stories to the world.

The debut of the Central Art Museum will bring a more charming cultural innovation to urban development. Explorations in various fields of art and culture will serve as channels to connect with the times and foster diverse innovation in society.

Zhang Songren, the exhibition's chief consultant, said that this new space and platform represent a more life-oriented form of an art museum.

"In today's market, demand extends beyond products, encompassing appeals for new lifestyles and imaginative aspirations. In this regard, the Central Art Museum hopes to find elevated collaborative perspectives because contemporary art is also about exploring new lives and proposing scientific imagination," Zhang added.

Wang Yan, curator of the Central Art Museum, stated that the inaugural exhibition is a new beginning and a creative start.

"It encourages artistic creation to break free from dependence on foreign elements and attempt to forge new self-formulas in the contemporary context. It will be a splendid reconstruction beyond the limits of the era to present the spiritual character and life pursuit of art," said Wang.
