Sanya International Photography Week opens in Hainan 

The inaugural Sanya International Photography Week kicked off recently in Sanya, South China's Hainan Province.

Themed Harmony and Coexistence, the first Sanya International Photography Week features four major sections: an opening ceremony, series exhibitions, fieldwork creation and artwork collection. 

The series exhibitions include four units: World's Oceans, Belt and Road, Cultural Exchange and an exhibition featuring invited photography masters. 

The captivating works are being showcased across two main exhibition areas in Sanya, displaying photographic works from more than 50 photographers from nearly 20 countries, including Turkey, Georgia, Hungary, Saudi Ara-bia, Indonesia, Portugal, Egypt and the US.

The opening ceremony on Saturday kicked off with a performance of passionate electronic music and the tradi-tional Chinese instrument erhu.

The World's Oceans exhibition showcases over 100 works from 19 Chinese and foreign photographers, including Jedd Wilkaden from the US, Stefan Westerland from Sweden, Xie Jianguo, Xie Fei and Zhu Keding from China, un-veiling the mysteries of the oceanic world for the audience.

The Belt and Road theme exhibition vividly portrays the customs and cultures of the Belt and Road Initiative members.

The Cultural Exchange international invitation exhibition showcases photographic works from over 10 photog-raphers from various countries constructing a visual window for the mutual exchange of human civilizations.

The Sanya International Photography Week is set to run until January 10, 2024.


Exhibition of water art reflects memories of Spanish artist Corbella

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain, Domènec Corbella, a Spanish artist and lifelong honorary professor at the University of Barcelona, is holding a large-scale solo exhibition The Way of Water at the Art Museum of the Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication.  

The 1,000-square-meter exhibition hall displays a total of 71 works by the artist themed on the sea.

In the exhibition, Corbella uses the diverse oceans as a prototype to reproduce the different shapes and states of seawater. 

His paintings do not come from sketching, but from an artist's perception of Eastern philosophy, and his precise and intentional combination experiments involving water, ink and pigments.

Ancient people from both the East and the West regarded water as a constituent element of the world and as-signed it cultural significance. 

Corbella's understanding of water is reflected in his paintings. He has set foot on the coast of the Mediterranean, floated on the surface of the Dead Sea, observed the microwaves of the West Lake in Hangzhou and looked at the huge waves of the Atlantic Ocean. 

In his exhibition, audiences can find traces of these bodies of water and his memories of them.
