Universal Music Greater China (UMGC), a part of Universal Music Group (UMG), announced a new deal with Jay Chou, the famous "King of Mandopop," and his record label JVR Music on Wednesday. The deal gives UMG the right to market and sell Chou's music and future projects around the world. It will also help new artists from JVR Music, such as Patrick Brasca and Young (Cao Yang).

Chou, who sold the most albums in the world in 2022, is now part of UMG's team of artists, as UMG strives to make Mandopop music more popular globally.

"We are very proud and happy to welcome Jay Chou, a legend of our time, to the Universal Music family," said Timothy Xu, the boss of Universal Music Greater China. "This deal is not just a big achievement for us; it's a celebration of Jay's amazing talent and appeal. We are very honored to have his music legacy and we want to help him reach more fans around the world."

Chou has been a star in the Mandarin music scene since his first album "JAY" in 2000. He has made 15 albums, and his 2022 album, "Greatest Works of Art," was a big success, making him the first Mandarin artist to rank in the top 10 of the IFPI Global Artist Chart, and the first to be number one in the Global Album Sales Chart.

"We are very happy to have Jay Chou and JVR join the Universal Music Group," said Adam Granite, executive vice president of market development of Universal Music Group. "This deal is a strategic win and a cultural victory. It shows our commitment to supporting different talents and bringing them to audiences worldwide. Jay's excellent talent and JVR's creative power fits well with our goal to make the music world richer."

Besides being a singer, Chou is also a respected songwriter. He has written and produced all his songs, often with the help of famous lyricist Vincent Fang. Since 2013, Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), the leading global publishing division of Universal Music Group, has been the publisher for Chou and JVR, managing all their songs.
