Chinese producer Yang Xiaopei is filled with expectations for future co-productions between China and the UK, as she delivered a speech at a forum in London on Saturday.

"Film and television works have rich spiritual connotations, and their unique expressive power can transcend race, boundaries, and languages, delivering messages about mutual understanding and tolerance," she stated at the Shanghai-London Screen Industry Forum.

Yang, the producer behind the popular Chinese TV series "Alliance," added that both TV workers can strive to find ways to break cultural barriers, delve deeply into period dramas, and explore more realistic themes along with universal values.

The Shanghai-London Screen Industry Forum aims to reinitiate dialogue between China and the UK in the film and television industry after the pandemic and foster mutual learning and exchanges. Simultaneously, the event also introduces and promotes China's fine productions and China-UK co-productions.

Yang, CEO and founder of Xixi Pictures, Lu Beike, visual director of the Three-Body TV series, Mike Goodridge, Founder and producer of Good Chaos, and Michael Nakan, CEO and founder of Envision, shared their views on topics such as how to narrate China's stories to global audiences and the opportunities and challenges faced by the globalization of Chinese TV series.

Since the series "Alliance" was shot in Shanghai, global audiences would have direct experiences of the city's rapid development and the lives of its people when watching the drama, said Yang.
