Chinese streaming platform Bilibili released a package of 68 domestic animation productions, including the long-anticipated sequel to the hit animation Yao-Chinese Folktales, on Tuesday night. Additionally, work on a big-screen feature that showcases the cute demon, a little pig in one episode, is currently in progress.

The highly acclaimed show, which premiered in early 2023, holds an average rating of 8.7/10 on the Chinese review platform Douban. This serves as proof that excellent works rooted in the essence of Chinese culture will always find an audience and perform well in the market.

Co-produced by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio and Shanghai Kuanyu Digital Technology, Yao-Chinese Folktales offers fresh interpretations of yao, demons, or monsters from Chinese folklore. It comprises eight stories, each ranging from 15 to 25 minutes in length.

All these stories draw inspiration from classic Chinese literary works that are deeply ingrained in the hearts and memories of the Chinese people. The themes, however, vary widely, covering everything from childhood terrors to shifts in the relationship between humans and nature, and even venturing into outer space.

In addition, the site has released a series of new content adapted from popular IP works.

Li Ni, Vice President and COO of Bilibili, stated, "Where there is Bilibili, there is animation." Bilibili has evolved from an animation community into a comprehensive video platform with nearly 100 million daily active users. The PUGV ecology serves as the driving force, while the ACG ecology acts as the barrier. Chinese animation sets the standard for this threshold.
