The London Design Festival's inaugural day witnessed the overseas debut of the "ULIO - Shanghai Fashion Week" exhibition, spotlighting sustainable Chinese fashion design.

This exhibition will grace the China Exchange 2F exhibition space from September 16 to September 29, offering a global audience a profound glimpse into the pioneering efforts of Chinese designers in the domain of sustainability.

In Chinese, ULIO signifies "powerful" and serves as an ode to the astute use of resources. Since 2019, it has served as an experimental canvas for Shanghai Fashion Week, placing a pronounced emphasis on realms like energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and recycling. The exhibition illuminates green supply chains and brands while showcasing the sustainable and ingenious creations of Chinese fashion designers.

The event in London is part of the city's initiative to project its indigenous designs on the global stage and foster international collaborations, operating under the aegis of “Design to Wonderland”.

Ms Lu Xiaolei, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Fashion Week Organizing Committee, remarked, "Design is a vast field. Within it, we have been ceaselessly contemplating the point of entry for fashion design and expression. Beyond the amalgamation and reinterpretation of cultural backgrounds, sustainability may embody a perspective more future-oriented and brimming with boundless potential."

The ULIO exhibition serves as a conduit for the exchange of ideas with design luminaries worldwide. In collaboration with CanU, a curator proficient in sustainable fashion, a curated selection of exemplary sustainable concept apparel has been chosen from over ten esteemed designer brands.

Each piece narrates a vivid environmental tale, embodying the diverse approaches of Chinese designers towards sustainable fashion.

Reflecting on its origins in Shanghai, the younger generation of consumers have gradually adopted sustainable fashion items, establishing a discerning awareness and consumption pattern. Many designers, right from the inception of their brands, have ingrained sustainable development as a foundational element of their brand identity.

Serving as a distinguished emblem of Shanghai, Shanghai Fashion Week adheres to the philosophy of being "rooted in the local yet possessing an international perspective", while attaching equal weight to creative design and commercial implementation. Over the past two decades, it has transformed into an innovative and dynamic fashion platform and stage.
