An ink and wash painting exhibition showing the unique scenery of Guilin, a city in South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region known for its rivers and mountains, has commenced at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing recently.

With a total of 34 ink paintings by renowned Chinese artist Yang Guang, who serves as honorary president of the Guilin Painting Academy and executive director of the Guangxi Artists Association, the paintings mainly focus on one element: the Lijiang River, a bright pearl among Guilin's beautiful mountains and rivers.

Kang Wei, editor-in-chief of The Art Newspaper in China, noted during the ceremony on Saturday that Yang's journey of art discovery through the Lijiang River can be observed in the following dimensions. "First, he explored the origins of family studies and traditions," Kang said. "Being the son of a well-known painter, he followed the tradition represented by his father while forging his own path of creation."

Yang regards the Lijiang River as a rich artistic resource. He integrated the Lijiang River into his art in a comprehensive manner, and then expanded beyond it to extract a series of cultural symbols, including old trees, flowers and other natural resources.
