Russian film screening to debut in upcoming China Changchun Film Festival

A Russian film screening will be held in the upcoming 18th China Changchun Film Festival to be launched from August 28 to September 2, 2023 in Changchun, capital of North China’s Jilin Province, the organizing committee announced on Monday. 

This will be the first time that a special Russian film display will be  included in the festival to add an international elements.  

Known as the “cradle” of Chinese films, Changchun established its first festival in 1992. Since 2021, the festival has changed from a biennial to annual event. Since then, 17 film festivals have been conducted. 

The 18th Chang Film Festival in 2023 will feature “new breakthrough” in addition to the previous theme of “new era, new cradle and new force” to signify the “all-round rejuvenation of the Changchun Film Festival.”

According to reports, the festival will include six main activities, covering the opening and closing ceremonies, the appraising and awarding of mainstream films in Chinese language, screening, seminars, salute to “the cradle,” and market integration. 

Up to now, several well-known Chinese films such as River All Red, The Wandering Earth 2, Lost in the Stars and so on have applied for their attendance to compete for the Golden Deer Prize, and its number has surpassed that of the previous festivals. Ten awards have been announced, including the best film, director, actors and actresses, and the best maiden work among others. The award ceremony will be hosted by China Media Group.
