New TV series celebrates 96th anniversary of PLA

To celebrate the 96th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), the poster for the TV series Winter and the Lion about the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, also known as the Korean Warwas released on Tuesday.

Winter and the Lion is a key drama commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea supported by the National Radio and Television Administration, and funded by the Zhejiang Culture and Arts Development Fund. The TV series tells the story of the soldiers who climbed over ice and slept in snow, fought in blood and defended the country during the war period.

On the poster released today, the lion symbolizes the endurance of the severe cold while fighting in winter, a metaphor for the perseverance and extraordinary courage of the Chinese army in such extreme and unfavorable external combat conditions.

The drama shows the spirit of the Chinese army and recreates the moments on the battlefield during the war. Winter and the Lion explains to the audience what we fight for and why we can win, reflecting the ambition, courage, backbone, and strength of China's PLA.

New suspense play to be staged in Beijing

As part of the national drama season in 2023, a new suspense drama Chair, directed by actor Zhang Tielin, will be staged at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing from August 15 to 17.

It is about a proofreader surnamed Ye, who is forced to quit and is replaced by a computer. Missing the chair he used in his office, he buys a similar chair in a vintage store where the staff claim it is a "relic dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644)."

However, the chair also drags him into an investigation into the "lost relic."

The drama looks at the discomfort and loss felt by ordinary people under the turmoil of the times, and explores paths of reconciliation between the outside world and oneself, while presenting the image of old Beijing in the 1990s.
