Chinese Han Dynasty relics debuted in Hungary embodying cultural exchange between the two sides

Hungary as the first European country to build the Belt and Road Initiative with China, both two sides have the close exchange in culture. The exhibition of the series from Shanghai Museum’s relics outbound “Jade Armour of Immortality-Treasures of China's Han Dynasty" debuted at the Móra Ferenc Museum in Hungary on June 24. Chinese relics captivated nearly 10,000 visitors to enjoy the charm of excellent Chinese traditional culture and it showcases the Chinese culture “going out.”

The exhibition was co-hosted by the Shanghai Museum, the Xuzhou Museum and Archaeology of Chengdu. There were 111 magnificent Han Dynasty (206BC-AD220) relics showed in this event, such as jade, lacquerware, pottery, bronze,seals, stone carving, coins and many other categories.  

China has the prosperous of economy and cultural during the Han Dynasty. The ancient Silk Road was established in the Han Dynasty, and continues to this day, which serving as an important bridge for economic and cultural exchanges between China and neighboring countries.

Shanghai Museum provided 86 pieces of Han star relics for this exhibition, which fully showcased the Han Dynasty. The exhibition divided into four part to vividly display politics, economy and culture of the golden times of Chinese history from easy-to-understand form. Exploring the cultural heritage of Chinese civilization, and promoting foreign people to understand Chinese ancient art and culture. 

Hungary and China have a solid friendship and there are close cultural exchanges between the two countries. “Sissy and Hungary: The Magnificent Life of Hungarian Aristocracy in the 17-19th Century” from Hungarian National Museum was held in Shanghai Museum in 2017.

The year of 2023 marks the 10the anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. Chu Xiaobo director of Shanghai Museum said that, “Hungary is one of the first country that build diplomatic relations with China and is the important cooperation partnership with the Belt and Road Initiative. Shanghai Museum wants to Hungarian people to know more history, culture and art of the Han Dynasty in China two thousand years ago, and hopes to communicate more between Chinese civilization and China and West cultural exchange to promote the exchange and mutual appreciation of world civilization.”

“To further promote cultural and people-to-people communication among countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, so that the world can “see” China,” Chu added. 

This exhibition is the first cultural “going out” brand of Shanghai Museum, it will be lasted until December 31, 2023, and is expected to tour in several countries.
