On June 8th, the seminar "Inheriting the Three sus' Family Tradition, Nurturing Patriotism and National Spirit" was held in Meishan. Chen Caizhi, a researcher at the Literature Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Li Gongyu, the Chairman of the Hainan Su Study Research Association, Shu Dagang, the Dean of the International Confucianism Research Institute at Sichuan University, and Pan Shuxian, the Dean of the College of Literature and Journalism at Xihua University, delivered keynote speeches. They delved into the world of the Three Sus and provided in-depth interpretations of the family tradition and family precepts of the Three Sus, as well as the contemporary value of patriotism and national spirit.

Centered around the theme of "From River to Sea, From Family to Nation - Stepping into Su Shi's World," Chen Caizhi provided profound insights into the legacy of Su Shi's family tradition and his noteworthy contributions to educational philosophy and practice.Chen Caizhi believes that Su Shi's experience in receiving family educationand the influence of his patriotism and educational ideashave become outstanding representatives and precious assets of Chinese traditional culture. In the digital age and within the context of post-modernity, an increasing number of successors embodying Su Shi's spirit actively engage in contemporary society. Chen Caizhi firmly believes that by adopting a broader cultural perspective, both Su Shi and the research surrounding his life and work will experience unprecedented breakthroughs. The charisma of this eternal hero and his literary works will also gain new understanding and recognition.

Li Gongyu believes that in this new historical period, the essence of studying and preserving the Three Sus' culture lies in the cultivation of patriotism and a national spirit. He emphasizes that The world of the Three Sus encapsulates not only profound philosophical contemplation and the aesthetic pleasure of stargazing but also practical governance theories and political practices grounded in reality. It vividly demonstrates the family tradition of "self-cultivation, a well-managed family, and the ability to administer the state and to bring peace to the nation".The cultivation and inheritance of the Su family's education and family tradition play a vital role in inspiring future generations to enhance their patriotism and national spirit. "Today, we should pay attention to family tradition and family education, apply ancient wisdom to the present, cultivate noble characteristics, nourish the people’s spirit, and educate future generations." Li Gongyu asserts that party members and leaders at all levels should lead by example, drawing inspiration from the Su family's traditions and principles. They should strive to be upright and moral, practicing frugality in managing their families, maintaining integrity in their work, and exhibiting unwavering incorruptibility in politics. Theyshould shoulder the responsibility for the nation and share the joys and sorrows with the country. Li Gongyu further emphasized that in the face of the global community and the emergence of a new form of human civilization, the Three Sus' culture, as a representative of China's outstanding traditional culture, holds significant importance as a bridge and conduit for fostering cultural exchange, mutual learning, and facilitating the integration of Chinese culture with the world.

Shu Dagang analyzed Su Shi's patriotism and national spirit from three dimensions: "Human-centered," "emotion-centered," and "people-centered." "Human-centered" refers to Su Shi's worldview, which emphasizes personal cultivation. The term "emotion-centered" refers to Su Shi's philosophy of life, wherein Shu Dagang astutely highlighted that Su Shi's evaluations of right and wrong, discussions on political matters, and assessments of their alignment with "human emotions" are essentially reflections of "public sentiment". "People-centered" refers to Su Shi's social perspective. Su Shi believes that "the people's fate is the foundation of heaven's mandate".He advocates "the world belongs to the public" and considers good governance to be serving the public interest. Shu Dagang believes that "virtuous governance" is not empty and hypocritical but should "benefit the people."

Pan Shuxian provided a contemporary interpretation of the Three Sus' family tradition and Su Shi's integrity. In his view, Su Shi was erudite, compassionate, humble, innovative, and had a strong sense of responsibility. Su Shi's rich experience and his integrity demonstrate his moral character. Such a Su Shi has brought many inspirations to people today. Pan Shuxian advocated for the pursuit of knowledge and lifelong learning, fostering a broad vision, and embracing a comprehensive perspective, ambition, and foresight. It is imperative to strive towards becoming an upright public servant who assumes responsibility, cares for the welfare of the people, and works towards their betterment. Reverence should be shown towards heaven, nature, science, law, and life. A sense of purpose should be cultivated for one's career, family, and society. Caution should be exercised in solitude, interpersonal interactions, personal gains, and reputation.

During the afternoon session, participants from various departments and units across the province, along with local experts, scholars, and representatives of exemplary models of family education and traditions, actively took part in group discussions. They shared their perspectives, engaged in systematic research, and explored pathways for inheriting the Three Sus' culture. The discussions yielded valuable suggestions for revitalizing the contemporary allure of the Three Sus' culture and generating innovative ideas.
